The Beekeeper is a dual-channel D-style tube preamp inspired by those rare L.A. boutique amps everyone talks about, but few can realistically own.

The Clean channel has a Fender-style foundation, but with a gentle midrange boost. It sounds wide open, with plenty of presence and headroom at lower gain, and moves into transparent overdrive at higher gain settings.

The Overdrive channel is thick and creamy, with rich harmonics and smooth note bloom as the gain goes up.

The Beekeeper uses a cascaded channel design, where the Clean channel feeds the Overdrive channel and acts as a boost in front of it. Balancing the CLN VOL and OD controls lets you shape the feel and character of the overdrive.

Its “Skyline” EQ is an improved take on the classic passive 3-band tone stack, with better control and less interaction between the knobs. The EQ and toggle switches affect both channels.

The Beekeeper can be used into the front of an amp, into a power amp, or directly with a cab sim. A side-mounted Tone Cut switch helps roll off excess treble when used into the front of an amp. It also offers external channel and bypass switching via a 3.5 mm jack on the side next to the output jack. Tip selects the channel, ring controls bypass, and the sleeve is grounded.

The pedal runs on a standard 12VDC input, internally boosted to 280VDC to power the tubes at proper voltage. A high-quality wall power supply is included. It can also run from a pedalboard power source using a 12VDC/500mA outlet or two 250mA outputs via a current doubler.

A true-bypass switch keeps the signal path intact when the preamp is off.

The Beekeeper covers a wide range of styles, but naturally leans toward blues and jazz.

Stuff They Don't Teach You In Church
Format: Paperback
Fawn Brodie did her research and cites primarily sources from LDS sources such as journals from people who knew Joseph Smith and from Joseph Smith himself. I trust that the information is reliable. I learned more about Joseph Smith than I was ever taught in Sunday School or LDS seminary. Fawn Brodie does speculate in some areas, such as Joseph's motives but she supports her assumptions with evidence, again, from primary sources. It was a quick read for me. I did have to get out a dictionary at some places, which is rare for me. Brodie paints a picture of the Joseph Smith that very few people knew. I enjoyed reading this book. I recommend it for LDS church members who want to know the history of one of enigmatic people in history, the founder of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The book points out not just the negative aspects of Joseph's life but Brodie balances it with the positive. Unlike Charles Manson, Jim Jones, or David Koresh, Joseph Smith truly cared about his followers and treated people well. I don't like how he seduced women, however and that detracts from his character. I do think he was a con man, however.

A very accessible classic
Format: Paperback
I chose this translation on the recommendation of a good friend who is also a professor of English. I wanted something that was true to the spirit of the work and not necessarily tied to the exact meter and rhyme of the original just for the sake of maintaining both. I was not disappointed. What struck me most was the imagery of the translation. As I read, I could see the scenes and felt that I was there, experiencing the plot. This tale has many of the elements of the current popular "superhero" genre of movies. Properly done, it would make an excellent film. Read it and enjoy!

Luminous Translation
This translation of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is rich in color, full of action, written with respect for the original poetry (in a Northern dialect of Middle English that partakes heavily of Old English and Old Norse influences). The richness of the story, the surroundings (both natural and courtly), and the vivid descriptions of hunting and fighting, make this very important knightly adventure jump off the page.

Laudable Work, with One Reservation
Format: Paperback
I appreciate Mr. Winny's time and efforts to produce a "bilingual" edition of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. No stranger to the pitfalls of poetic translation, I prefer to have the original side-by-side with the modern English language rendering, as you get with this book. That way, I can quiet the academic growl in my head that remains skeptical of the inevitable poetic license the translator--by necessity--must take to adapt ancient words into modern parlance. My only complaint is that since the poem in its original is half the appeal of what this book promises, why modernize the letters? The Gawain poet's Middle English is already much more obscure to the modern reader than Chaucer's. Why not retain the yogh, the thorn, etc.? The target audience is already willing to climb the mountain, so why lop off the peak?

One of my favs
Format: Paperback
Gawain and the Green Knight is one of my favorite Arthurian Legends. This version has Middle English and Modern English translations side-by-side, which is loads of fun to follow. Let's just say this copy is well read.
